September Backlogs: little bits

Here you will find a short list of things from the end of September that I never got around to blogging about.

Dusty was cute

The girlies were cute

We had silly dates

We had double dates

That chick kept wearing my cardigan

Dusty touched a special rock

To be more specific, which I feel is probably necessary, the law school has a ceremony called Ad Fontes where the students touch the "ebenezer stone" upon arrival, and upon entering their last year. It's a symbol.
And apparently this rock was actually found on Mount Sinai, so that's pretty cool.

We had an awesome Revenge premiere party

We kind of stuck with the "fire and ice" theme!
Everything looked great, and all of the snacks and drinks were amazing.
The only teeny tiny problem was that our cable stopped working, seconds before the premiere began.
It was a major crisis.
Luckily, Russanna voted for us to drive a few minutes down the road to her house to watch it there. We missed the first fifteen minutes, but overall, I'm gonna call this premiere party a success.

We've gotten way behind on this show, so part of Christmas break will definitely be spent catching up on the dastardly deeds and harrowing troubles of our favorite revenger Emily Thorne.

I began the prep for a happy Frocktober!

The time for a month of dresses had come again!
Head to Voguish at Best for my log of Frocktober posts.

snow snow snow

Last Thursday night, we almost died.

If I'm being really honest, we just almost slid into a ditch, and "almost" is kind of an extreme term for the situation, but it was still really scary.

We knew snow was rumored that night, and were really hoping for it!
Almost everyone around school left at 3pm, when the supposed flurries were scheduled to begin. No one wanted to be caught in the snow storm!
In Lynchburg, snow may as well mean Armageddon. People get crazy.

When Dusty came to pick me up, it went from a cloudy/rainy day, to this in a matter of minutes.

It was really intense.
But also really beautiful, really exciting, and really dangerous!

The drive home was precarious, at best. We couldn't see a thing. The inside of the windshield was fogging, so we had the defrost blasting on cold and were constantly wiping down the window to keep it clear.
The snow was falling in huge clumps and clogging up the windshield wipers.

By the time we got to our street, we could see a little bit better but the roads were really slick.

Lucky for us, the road leading to our apartment is dark and treacherous.

As we approached the last turn onto our street, the two cars in front of us began to do a little dance.
A dance called the sliding-on-ice-toward-death. The Slide and Ditch.
As the second car began to slide down the ice toward the ditch on the left, (while I'm screaming "NO! NO! Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, what? Whatdowedo, arewegonnadie!? We can't get stuck here!") the preppy passenger jumps out and falls painfully about 6 times, his Target hoodie flapping uselessly, before reaching our car window and warning us boldly, "Hey, that's all ice."
What a hero.

He then continued to run and fall past us, and was never seen again.
Maybe he was an angel.

Anyway, we both started just praying out loud. Really loud, panicky prayers with lots of word repetition. Somehow I don't think God cares as much about creativity in those situations.
Dusty drove the car as far to the right as he could, without going over into the other ditch. We slid a few times going up the hill, but managed not to hit any of the obstacle-course cars that were parked with their hazards on in various locations along the way.
I was very fearful of a pinball game type scenario taking place.
We reached the apartment complex, but knew we couldn't go all the way down the hill to our apartment. It was too steep, and way too dangerous.
We parked on even ground, and walked the rest of the way huddled underneath our umbrella. It had mostly stopped snowing at that point, and everything was quiet and beautiful.

I decided I hate when it's snowing but I love when there's snow.
Is there a way to arrange that?

The rest of our night consisted of making our favorite pasta sauce recipe (the secret is the splenda!), and pretending we were fancy with some olive oil, balsamic, fresh ground pepper and pesto/butter covered toast.
And now that small salad and apple I had for lunch seems ridiculous.

We stayed in our pajamas on the couch in front of our space heater, watching TV.

The next morning was bliss.

The University was delayed until 11am, so we enjoyed the beauty all around us while we slowly got ready.

The blizzard the night before was totally worth the snow-covered paradise we got to enjoy the next day!

Oh wait -- it's not Fall? I guess we should take our wreath down...

It took us about 20 minutes to chip away all the stubborn ice from our car. It wasn't a fluffy soft snow...it was very thick and icy, and our car was buried in its igloo embrace.

It's all melted now, although it's in the 20's today and walking outside makes me feel like anything thinner than my thighs is going to break off like peanut brittle.

The forecast is predicting more snow for Friday - and I don't mind one bit!
As long as I can stay inside while it's actually snowing, and then walk around in it in the sunshine.
That's the best.

In love,
Cait

I Heart October

October is my favorite month of the year. It's true.

My life began in October, so maybe that's part of it.
I really, really like birthdays. And even though it's kind of strange to celebrate every year the day you were born, (totally narcissistic) I absolutely love to make it a big deal.

My love languages are Words of Affirmation and Gifts, and I love to give, receive, and be near the giving or receiving of gifts.

I like to promote "birthday month" which is basically an excuse to say "but it's my birthday" within a month (on either end) of my actual birthday.
My husband likes to go along with it, because he's sweet and accommodating.

Which is why he's amazing and got me a kitten.

It was the first "birthday month!" surprise and it has been an absolutely lovely week, let me tell you.
We picked her up last Friday. We had seen her at Pets-Mart the week before, and we had seriously considered taking her home with us. But, we decided not to.... despite my pouting eyes.
The pouting eyes always work, people.

So last Friday, this happened.

He's so tricky.
He tries to say he got her for me, but let's be honest.
He's a crazy cat man now.

Although...in his defense, she's like. Ridiculously cute.

We decided to name her Evangeline.

Perfection.

Luna = "Moon"
Evangeline = "Star"
:)

She's kind of perfect.
She's the only birthday present I've ever gotten with a built-in bow.
On her face.

And to top that off, she's got the cutest little legs.
There's nothing more perfect than little animals paws.

Except for an animal paw with a giant heart on it.

Like I said, kind of perfect.

There's only one real flaw with little Evangeline.
She won't get off of me.

I say that in a really loving way. But she is the neediest, cuddliest, most ridiculously loving/insecure kitten I've ever seen.
She can't sit still. We spent the first 3 days like this.

I just had to carry her around.
She would cry nonstop, whenever I'd leave her.
It took us 2 days to gradually introduce her to Luna, so I spent a lot of time alone with her in the craft room.
We watched a lot of movies. And I read.
Well. I tried to.

It started out well.

She's getting closer...
Yeah this isn't gonna work.
Okay....cool.
Still, even after having her for 10 days, she has to sleep on me at night.
Not really on me. She sleeps on my face.
She sleeps wrapped around my face. With her face burrowed into my eyeball, if she can manage it.
Purring like a helicopter.
I haven't slept in 10 days.

I woke up angry and sweating at 2am this morning because I had been wearing a cat-scarf for 3 hours.

Despite her needy ways, we have come to love her. So has Luna. Kind of. In her own way.
This happened last night, so we think she might be done trying to kill her.

So, we welcome in October in very, very good spirits.
It's birthday week!

And also, in honor of October, my favorite online boutique Ruche is having a cute little "Frocktober" event.
Every day in October, they will be releasing a new special dress for sale!

In response to this, I'm going to have my own "Frocktober"!
I will be wearing a dress every day, to try and challenge myself to reinvent my wardrobe on a daily basis.

I'll be posting my outfits at the end of each week, to keep up with my challenge.
Keep checking back to follow along!

I shall be dedicated to a month of Frighteningly Fantastic Fashion.

In love,
Cait
